From Juneteenth Festivals to Family Reunions: “If It’s Black, I’mma Be There”

From Juneteenth Festivals to Family Reunions: “If It’s Black, I’mma Be There”

Summer in Black communities has its own rhythm.

One weekend it’s a Juneteenth festival.
The next weekend it’s a family reunion.
Then somebody’s cookout.
Then a Black business market.
Then Homecoming planning starts somehow before summer is even over.

And through all of it, there’s usually one shared attitude:

“If it’s Black, I’mma be there.”

That phrase started as something funny.
But honestly, it reflects something much deeper too.

Black gatherings are about more than events

A lot of Black summer spaces carry emotional weight.

They’re places where:

  • culture feels familiar
  • people feel understood
  • businesses feel supported
  • music feels connected to memory
  • traditions continue naturally

That’s part of why Juneteenth celebrations feel so important now.

Not only because of history.

But because they create intentional space for joy, community, creativity, and togetherness.

Supporting Black spaces is part of the culture too

One thing I love about Black events is how intentionally people show up for each other.

Especially:

  • Black-owned vendors
  • artists
  • creators
  • food businesses
  • performers
  • community organizations

There’s an understanding that participation matters.

And honestly, that spirit inspired the entire shirt.

The shirt became a conversation starter immediately

One thing I noticed after creating the design is how quickly people laughed, pointed, and related to it.

Because people instantly recognized themselves in it.

Everybody knows somebody who:

  • never misses a Black festival
  • always knows where the cookout is
  • supports every Black market
  • travels for Homecoming
  • shows up for every HBCU event possible

Sometimes that person is all of us.

Summer memories happen in these spaces

A lot of our favorite memories happen at gatherings like these.

Cookouts.
Family reunions.
Festivals.
Concerts.
Step shows.
Community events.

That’s why statement apparel connected to culture feels different.

It becomes attached to actual experiences and memories.

Juneteenth is part of that story too

Juneteenth celebrations continue to evolve every year.

And one of the most beautiful parts is seeing how Black creativity, fashion, food, music, and entrepreneurship all naturally exist inside those spaces together.

Not separated.

Connected.

Final Thoughts

“If It’s Black, I’mma Be There” works because it’s funny.

But it also works because it reflects something real about community, support, and cultural connection.

Especially during summertime.

Especially during Juneteenth season.

Especially when Black spaces continue creating joy in visible ways.
