Winston-Salem State University knows how to do Homecoming—and I have the sore feet to prove it.
Last year I walked their legendary, super-long and hilly Homecoming parade with my daughter’s drumline. Let’s just say Birkenstocks were not built for that journey. 🥴 But the energy, music, and community were unforgettable.

Pro Tips for Parade Day

  • Wear real shoes. Those hills are no joke.

  • Hydrate and snack. Pack water or stop at a nearby café for coffee or smoothies before the lineup.

  • Plan extra time. The parade is famously long—worth every minute for the bands, floats, and Ram pride.

Merch to Match the Vibe

West & Remount’s WSSU towels and accessories are perfect for parade day and tailgates—whether you need to wipe down after the march or just want to show Ram pride. Order early so your gear is ready for October 18.

Whether you’re marching, cheering, or eating your way through town, WSSU Homecoming delivers on community and flavor. I’ll never forget the sound of the drumline echoing down those Winston hills—or how good that first bite of soul food tasted afterward.
