Stitched for Every Scene:What’s the Queen City HBCU Cookout? Why It Matters, and Why We’re There Every Year

West & Remount is headed back to the Queen City HBCU Cookout! Join us July 26th at JCSU for custom towels, culture, and community — all stitched with pride.

July 26, 2025 is about to get hot — and not just because of the Charlotte sun. The Queen City HBCU Cookout lands at Johnson C. Smith University again this summer, bringing together dozens of HBCU alumni chapters, students, and fans for food, music, family, and cultural pride.

But this isn’t just another gathering — it’s a community-powered celebration with three powerful missions:

1. Scholarships at the Core

Founded in 2019 by JCSU and NC A&T alumni, the cookout is a scholarship fundraiser aimed at supporting local students in their HBCU dreams. Each ticket sold helps area alumni chapters send kids to the schools they love facebook.com+12thecharlottepost.com+12events.eventnoire.com+12.

2. Building Alumni Unity

In Charlotte alone, 20+ HBCU chapters come together under one sky — a coalition known as Queen City HBCUs Inc. From Clark-Atlanta to Morehouse, Hampton to Delaware State, alumni mingle, network, and reconnect, building solidarity and alumni pride facebook.com+5thecharlottepost.com+5thecharlottepost.com+5.

3. Cultural Energy on Display

From line dancing on the lawn to performances by the JCSU Marching Band and speeches from university presidents, the cookout is an HBCU experience condensed into one afternoon facebook.com+13thecharlottepost.com+13eventnoire.com+13. And yes — last year was straight fire, with heat so real, our Leisure Luxe Towels became instant essentials, dunked in ice water and draped over shoulders and necks to cool off.

Why West & Remount Is Coming Back 🔥

Last year was our first year — and Charlotte responded. We rocked custom towels, bandanas, and mobile tent pop-ups. We saw IIOS performers (JCSU Marching Band). We heard the JCSU president. We felt the heat. We even joined in on line dances and fellowship in the scorching sun.
